To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

DSO in Scotland
We have now completed the DSO in Scotland, but initially it was a 2 stage procedure. In July 2010, (Highlands & Islands)our BBC's went digital and the ITV's stayed on analogue. In October 2010, stage 2 k took place and the ITV stations went digital and all analogue was switched off.
At both stages, a First Time Installation was required to get all the available channels. A re-scan is not enough.
Info is provided here just in case people in England assume that ALL channels are immediately available in Digital form. If not, the missing channels could still be available on Analogue, ie TV as Output rather than DTV as Output.
May save a lot of questions on here as to Where are my channels?

Skyeliner: I'm guessing you're in a location where you could get both Skriaig, or one of its relays, and Torosay, or one of its relays. Perhaps Mallaig?

The Skriaig group completed in two stages in July 2010, two weeks apart, and Torosay in two stages in October, again two weeks apart. This would explain why you still had analogue after July 2010.

I can't see any interim low-power multiplexes at Skriaig or its relays, so either the communications weren't very clear, or you're in a particularly difficult location where you can only get some multiplexes from one transmitter and the rest from another.

There can still be large overlap areas in England - larger in fact than in Scotland, where the terrain means a lot of relays are required. Yorkshire is largely covered by three main transmitters: Emley Moor, Belmont and Bilsdale. Belmont completed switchover last week, Emley Moor will do so next month, and Bilsdale is at least a year away as it is part of the Tyne Tees region. Some viewers may still be able to get analogue from Bilsdale, but if you were expecting to get news from Hull (Belmont group), and you can't, you likely have a problem. If you were expecting news from Leeds (Emley Moor group), that switches over on the 7th of September (BBC digital channels, except HD) and the 21st (all remaining channels).

Belmont's coverage area stretches right down into Cambridgeshire and north Norfolk. There are a few two-channel relays of Tacolneston in north Norfolk, which provide BBC One for Look East and ITV1 for Anglia Tonight to viewers who can't get the service directly from Tacolneston, but can get clear reception of the Yorkshire/Lincolnshire news services from Belmont.

emma williams: Indications are that you should have good reception from the Nottingham transmitter at 2 miles away, that is if your aerial was directed at this transmitter and not Waltham.

You problem could be caused by when the re-tuning operation was carried out your box having locked onto and stored BBC (and possibly others) from Belmont (now on high power Mux Ch22) rather than Nottingham (Mux Ch27) with the only way to get over this being for you to carry out a manual tune.

First though, have a look in the 800 ranges of channels and you might see your local BBC up there, if it is then a manual scan is the only cure, info on procedure supplied if requested.

As of yesterday I can only receive BBC channels and radio. I tried to re-tune several times but just stick with group 1 channels. I tried the unplugging aerial procedure and re-connecting after scan and still group 1 only!! Aarrgh What can I do?
My postcode is GL56

joyce hadley: I'd look for a break in the cable, a loose connection, or a damaged or misaligned aerial. If it's been raining, check that all outside boxes are weatherproof and that cable insulation is undamaged. If cables can move, rubbing up against brickwork or tiles, the insulation will get damaged and allow water in, which increases the signal loss in the cable.

You're clearly missing a lot more than a single multiplex.

You're close enough to the transmitter that you probably can pick up enough signal just from a length of cable rather than from the full aerial.

If you have a booster, check that the power supply is still working and there isn't a blown fuse. You shouldn't need a booster at this distance from the transmitter, so you could try just bypassing it.

There's a possibility that your TV will decide to tune in signals from a different transmitter. Some TVs and set-top boxes just store the first version of the channels they come across, regardless of the strength or quality. The Wrekin, Bromsgrove and Lark Stoke transmitters all use lower frequencies than Sutton Coldfield, so these would be found first. See Digital Region Overlap for how to fix this. Most TVs do go on to store the versions found later in the scan, but some don't.
