To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Jason,London.Try the reset procedure for your TopUpTV box,then rescan either automatically or if your appliance will allow rescan it preferably manually.

Or try either a set top aerial,a thin piece of wire or a very wee (small) sized screwdriver into the aerial socket of your appliance and if the missing BBCA multiplex channels return then you may have too much signal,if that is the case fit a variable attenuator to reduce the signal.

As you could be anywhere in London either on Crystal Palace or another relay or other main transmitter,if you leave a full postcode the real professionals on here,Briantist,Mike Dimmick,JB38,KMJ Derby,etc,will offer more in depth expertise on your current predicament.

I hope tyomorrows rescan sorts the problems out - I found a new channel for me - ch20 'really' which I enjoyed - so this morning I seem to have lost both picktv and really - So I am praying that tomorrow all will be sorted as this is very annoying LOL

I am hoping that I wont be here tomorrow moaning that I have lost everything and wanting to throw the freeview boxes out of the window!

Last time the helpline of my freeview box helped me to do a 'factory something or other reset' and it wa sfab and all was well.. for a while... but - Tomorrow is another day so I pray that all will be well and thank you for all your kind help.

Well..... Rescanned box1 - for the first time ever on picktv I saw the signal level bar pop into green! it is mostly in yellow but keeps jumping into green then back again but the signal quality bar is at about 80% up in green.
I wish the actual signal one would stay in green also... especially being so close to bluebell hil.

I am hoping that maybe later it will all be well and i dont care what colour the levels are if i dont get loss of sound and pixellation and complete loss of signal any more

here's praying!

Sarah C: If you have perfectly stable reception on all of the other channels then about the only thing that might help your situation is the repositioning of your aerial by lowering it slightly "if" its mounted on a high pole, as where dense trees are involved such as appears to apply in your particular case, a more stable signal is sometimes achieved by the aerial being aimed towards trunk level rather than the foliage.

Just out of interest, what signal "strength" do you see being indicated when checked whilst on Pick TV (11) compared to a similar check being carried out on Yesterday (12)? although if the strength / quality levels are combined then is the signal more stable on Yesterday over that of Pick TV?

By the way, even although what I have mentioned can in many cases help the situation, this type of action is always best if taken in the middle or end of a growing season for obvious reasons, as well as the fact that its fully appreciated that this type of activity is more suited to DIY types that doesn't mind spending some time experimenting as well as having the ability to carry out this type of procedure.

Thus far today I have had NO loss of sound and NO pixellation (bar when a helicopter was right over the roof but it soon went lol)

The signal strength is at maybe 40% and the signal quality is in green at about 90%! The signalk strength keeps jumping into green and down again, but the actual quality of the signal is so much better - cars can go by without affecting the signal - which is FAB!

All channels are much more the same on strength and quality now - Which is good - To finally be able to not have freezing pictures and loss of sound and that horrid squeeeeeak and then loss of sound is great to have gone!

OOOOH channel 12 has green at about 80-85% on both strength and quality - thats the first time ive seen that

I am very not technically advanced - And i freak out all the time, basically as nobody around me can help me if i have problems...

Sarah C:

It looks like the power increase that has just taken place at the transmitter has done the trick for you.

However, I wouldn't pay too much attention to the signal bars for strength and quality as these vary a great deal from device to device. Time and viewing will tell over the next few days if all is now OK, but I suspect it is.

Happy (and reliable) viewing,
Adam.

Yes - everything seems much much better (fab signal on ch12 that i dont ever watch LOL

It is a much more reliable signal and I havent noticed every time a car goes by by loss of sound etc - which is fab also...

Apart from this afternoon (and quite a few afternoons recently) it deciding to force a rescan at exactly 3pm (when i am out and trying to tape biggest loser) so I get to tape 30mins of utter nothing. I pray that stops cos it drives me NUTSO...

Thanks sooooooooooooooo much for your help! <3

Sarah C:

There is probably an option which says something like "scan automatically for updates" or something along those lines. If you have a look for something like that in the various menu options, you will probably be offered the chance to turn off that particular setting.

Hope this helps,
Adam.

Sarah C: If you are managing to receive a reasonably OK signal then that's all that matters, that said though its not really desirable for the signal quality on any channel to be running for most of the time under green as its at the lower end of that state where glitches are liable to occur.

However there really isn't anything you can do about that other than what was mentioned, as the problem will be caused by the range of trees that's situated not that terribly far away from you and which are in line with the signal path, and as trees and rain make a bad combination as far as signal blocking is concerned I would keep this in mind should you experience any problems during this type of weather.
