To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Es: Is it a communal aerial system you are using? Ask your neighbours to see if they have issues.

If it is a communal system, have you noticed any lights being out in communal areas (stairs, landings etc) and which might coincide with the TV signal failing?

Christiane Hennecke: This info (which you have posted in a different section) doesn't really assist any as I am unable to steer you in the correct direction without it, however on further checking using the location info you have supplied indicates that if the code given is accurate then your hands are somewhat tied by being under a communal aerial system, and which is obviously out with your control, albeit that I do feel that satisfactory reception from Sandy might other wise be possible with an aerial facing in that direction.

Just out of interest though you could try the test I mentioned just to see where the signal is coming from, this being the procedure used.

Select BBC1 and via the tuning menu go into your TV's signal check screen and noting the channel number seen associated with the strength reading, if you see Ch50 its Luton whereas if its Ch27 it will be from Sandy. You can also make the same check after selecting ITV, where in that case Ch59 is from Luton, whereas if Ch24 is seen its from Sandy.

This being said taking it that you are in the large modern looking building with a car park at the left hand side.

Hi

for the last few days we have had no BBC1 Scotland, BBC2 Scotland, BBC3 or BBC news on our panasonic viera TV with built in freeview. we live in a flat with a communal roof aerial so I cant access it, and havent been able to catch a neighbour to see if they are having a similar problem, but it may have happened during the storms last week (but we were away). our postcode is EH10 4ST. We still get BBC HD and BBC1 HD.. is there any reported problem with the signal that anyone is aware of? I have tried resetting/retuning... if its the aerial, its on top of our 4 storey tenament building - do i need to get someone to come adjust it?

Hi. W9. Lost a number of channels yesterday, get multiplex 1 and 4 (I think) only and even then the reception on the others is not great. Have never had a problem before, my tv has freeview inbuilt. Communal aerial. Have reset the channel list/retuned numerous times. When I manually search I get told there is no signal for the multiplexes I have lost. Help!

susanuk: Have you looked in your 800s for the BBC channels (or indeed any channels)?

Since my last post I connected the tv to another communal aerial and retuned and this time lost the channels I had before and got the ones that I lost originally. Transferred the Tele to the usual aerial and did a reset and now only get multiplex 2 etc (ie now have lost bbc). Any ideas?

Hi Dave - thanks for the response. I know this might sound daft, but i dont know how to search manually for channels.. if I go into manual tuning it still does it automatically...
to give some further info, the signal seems a bit dodgy on some other channels as well (it goes pixelly and glitches sometimes) which is not something that used to happen either.

susanuk: I am wondering if your TV has tuned to the signal from a different transmitter. In your area there is Craigkelly and Black Hill.

If you do ask a neighbour if they have lost their BBC channels, don't discount the possibility that their TV could have tuned to the wrong transmitter for the same reason that yours has.

I asked if you have any channels stored in 800s because this is usually where duplicates are put. Existance of services in the 800s therefore indicates that the signals from more than one transmitter are being picked up and therefore that there is the possibility that the wrong one has been stored as the primary.

The aerials that I can see on Google Streetview are on Black Hill. Craigkelly's lowest frequency multiplexes are lower than those of Black Hill, so it could be that they are being found first and could explain why it might go with them.

If you manually tune (assuming that your receiver allows you to do so), then you might find that it doesn't do what you want it to because it already has the channels stored in the 800s. For example, suppose BBC One and BBC Two from Craigkelly are put on logical channel numbers (LCNs) 1 and 2. When it finds those services from Black Hill, it will throw them in the 800s. When you manually tune to BBC services from Black Hill, it might not have any effect because they are already stored (albeit in the 800s). So in order to manually tune effectively, it's probably best to wipe the memory.

You can usually go to the signal strength screen to find out what UHF channel it is tuned to. The best way to proceed is to establish whether it is tuned correctly or not.

If your aerial is on Black Hill (pointing almost west), then BBC is Ch46, STV/C4 etc are Ch43, HD services are Ch40, ITV3 etc are Ch41, Pick TV etc are Ch44 and Yesterday etc are Ch47.

Channels used for these services by Craigkelly (almost north) are 27, 24, 21, 42, 45, 39 respectively.

Let us know the make and model and we might be able to find the user manual online and direct you as to how to proceed.

Dave, thanks so much for your help. for the maual retune, i can go through each UHF channel and it does an automatic search for channels on each frequency. Through this i can see that I am definiately picking up blkachill channels rather than Craigkelly but it is saying 'no new channels found' when i go through each one, and isnt picking up anything on the frequency that either transmitter has BBC on. I cant see any LCNs in the 800s, but then that doesnt mean there arent any, its just I dont know where I am looking. I will try to catch a neighbour today to find out if its just me, and also do a complete wipe and start again. thanks for your help. the TV is a Panasonic Viera TX-L32E30B LED HD TV.
