You can use the following ways to connect a set-top box to a TV:

1. SCART on STB to SCART on TV. This provides the best possible connection, with stereo sound and "RGB" highest quality connection;

2. SCART on STB to composite on TV. Older TVs without SCART connections usually have "composite" inputs, usually three "phono" sockets (often red, white and yellow). This offers stereo sound and good picture quality. You will need a special cable from a high-street retailer.

3. UHF ("aerial lead") box to TV. This requires that the STB you choose (all Sky, MOST Freeview) has a UHF output. You will need to "tune" the TV into the box, and you will get OK pictures and only mono sound.

If you are stuck with mono or poor quality sound on the TV, you can still use the SCART output (and the same cable as 2) to a separate amplifier to listen in stereo.

Anne Low: With reference to the issue of the menu, go into the TV's input selector menu and make sure that you have selected the correct HDMI input number that you have used for connection to the Virgin box, auto switching usually being on No1 on many devices, although its not known whether or not this also applies with your set.

Hi there, I have an old-ish Relisys 15" TV and want to connect a set top box to it - it's picking up all 5 terrestial channels fine. It has only got the Phono (AV1) sockets and no scart (it does have the standard monitor socket for a computer.
I've just bought a TVonics box but can't even get the set-up screen to display - Any ideas? thanks in advance.

Hi
I have a sky setup in my house with sky installed into all 4 bedrooms. I have a magic eye setup in my bedroom connected by the aeriel rf lead so i can change the tv upstairs. i do not have multiroom installation.
just changed my 14" portbale to a 22" samsung led tv and when watching sky in the bedroom i get no voice just the soundtrack ?
i know that the signal is going to be mono but why would i not get sky movies playing on tv like they do elsewhere. isnt the case on other channels just on movies ?
any ideas would be greatly welcomed

Robin: You will need to use a SCART->phono adaptor such as
SCART to Phono OUT Adaptor : Connect SCART : Maplin
to put in the set-top box.

carl: The usual reason for this would be that you have enabled one of the "Dolby" modes, but do not have a suitable amplifier. If you can see "Dolby" in the TV's "Sound settings" menu, turn it back to "stereo".

I have just purchased a Technika HD ready TV with built in Freeview. How do I connect this TV through my existing virgin media box? I have tried to connect the TV through the box and bypassing the box but just keep receiving 'no signal'. Am I being thick or what? I have used the aerial connection on the box to the TV and have also tried connecting with a scart lead to the TV, both things have sadly failed!

thanks

since digital changeover I have not been able to get freeview picture & sound.
Ariel has been checked by tv engineer where it comes into house and is ok.
when freeview box is connected up it detects 81 channels but gives a message saying no ariel connection.
Please tell me how to sort this out, have tried it on two different tvs and get same message.
