My Sky box has a no signal message - what do I do?
published on UK Free TV

If you are getting the message "no signal" this would indicate that there is a problem with the signal from your dish into your box. Even without a card inserted into a Sky Digibox, if there is a signal, you will always get Sky Guide and the free channels.

Try powering off your box, remove the card, check carefully the cables, especially the connection to the dish, reapply the power and then when asked to insert your card you should then be able to see (for example) Sky News on 501 and the BBC News channel on 503.

Once you can see any channel, reinsert your card. This should, after about one minute, give you the channels you expect, such as 103, 104 and 105.

There are three ways you can attempt to reset your box. Please see What can my do when my Sky Digibox says 'No Signal' ?.

If you continue to get "No signal", you dish may have been misaligned, or there may be a fault with the cables and connectors, or a problem with the Digibox. You can see the signal strength by pressing SERVICES, then 4-SYSTEM SETUP and 6-SIGNAL STRENGTH.

Hi, my sky plus box does not receive any signal. Tried another box and it works fine. Is this repairable ?

For a while now our picture quality is somewhat fuzzy, its like you are watching behind a glass window, however when we watch sky movies the picture is crystal clear. I have to say it is driving me mad. We have a roof aerial and the satellite dish is on the side of the house, where it has been for many years, since we had it installed. Could it have moved slightly, if so can we re position it ourselves.NN11 4EQ

A AGIUS: A fuzzy picture is not something you get from reception of digital signals, so I would certainly not suspect an aerial problem.

If you are using a separate Freeview box, I wonder if it is noise being picked up in the scart lead between it and your TV.

How have you got everything connected? How do you watch Freeview on your TV (what do you have to select)?

Hi i went to a customers house today his dish was on the back of his house and his box at the front of the house. The cable could only go over the roof as there was no way around the house, sky had done what they allways do just throw the coax over the roof. Needless to say coax rubbed and let water in, luckly the box was ok all i had to do was replace the coax but every other tile just put a small lashing wire v in to stop it rubbing. So message to everybody who is in the same place either get an independent to come out to stop the cable from rubbing or wait and pay for the whole cable.

Hi, we have a satellite dish with a goodmans freesat box. In the last couple of days we have been gradually losing channels, showing 'no signal' on BB2,ITV, Channel 4 and many others. We have tried switching it on and off, making sure the cables and scart are connected properly. Any help would be welcome. Our postcode is DT8 3JL.

Paula: This type of problem is suggestive of either your dish being very slightly out of alignment or a problem with the coax connection to your dishes LNB, or even the "F" connector that goes into your box as there isnt much else it can be on a satellite system.

You should have a look at the signal level indicator to see if the strength / quality is roughly the same, as they should be, if the quality is seen lagging then the dish could benefit from being slightly re-aligned in its horizontal plane, that is a very slight nudge to either the left or right.

Thanks so much for your quick reply. Unbelievably all of our channels have mysteriously come back this morning. Should they disappear again we will try the tips you suggested!

Tonight we switch on the tele about 7.30pm and got a "frozen" picture. I cannot get a lock even on 12207 and am just getting a "No signal" message. I have tried unplugging the SKY box but nothing works. Am I alone in this or is this the end of Sky in Cyprus?

im having real problems with mine. i keep getting no sat signal, etc i have tried 2 different sky boxes and have also tried 2 different sky veiwing cards. i went on to the menu and there is an empty box where it should say my signal strength. I was watching tv when it just cut out and nothing seems to be working, could it be that the lead to the dish has come loose, i have 2 sky plus hd boxes one down stairs which is working fine and the one in my room which is not working please help.
