Three days of outages followed by low power conditions

Three days of outages followed by low power conditions
published on UK Free TV

Around 70,000 homes in Surrey will be effected by works on the Reigate transmitter over the next few weeks.

First, from the 16th-18th the transmitter will be off the air during the daytime to allow painting of the drum.

Following this, there will be a ten day period where other engineering work will reduce the power level from the transmitter.

Hi there

Do you have problems with BBC1 cutting out or swapping over to another channel such as ITV
in the Cheshire area.

Regards

John

John Brennan: All your local transmitters have switched over. I'd be very surprised if this was a transmission problem. I suggest doing a full reset on your box or TV.

You should also check whether your box or TV is on the list of equipment that has a problem with a 'Split NIT': http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/splitnit If it does, contact the manufacturer for an upgrade.

Or do you mean that this problem occurs when you retune? I assume you're selecting channel 1 or 3 on the remote, and not a channel 800-and-something? While the first version of a channel found goes to it's preferred logical channel number, there's no guarantee what order any additional versions will show up in, and whether certain variants will show up at all, if they're quite weak.

Cheshire is between the Winter Hill transmitter near Bolton and the Moel-Y-Parc transmitter in North Wales. It's possible you have a 'region overlap' problem. Newer equipment, particularly Freeview HD-branded, should prompt to ask which region you want, if the aerial is picking up both. Even if the aerial is pointing to Winter Hill, enough signal could be picked up from Moel-Y-Parc to confuse the box when you retune it, but not enough that it always reliably picks up all multiplexes. Hi, I live in Doncaster and from last night I can only receive the free HD channels on my Freeview, we have reset/re scan but to no avail. Any ideas? We cannot get the 'guide' feature and it just keeps saying this programme number is not available

jo: If you have Freeview HD equipment, it should have asked you to select your region. Sometimes, the broadcasters add a character to the region description (usually a dot) to indicate that they've changed something. Some boxes don't handle this properly if they retune automatically, and only store the channels that still match the original region description.

You may be able to fix it if you do a full reset of the box, then select the region that has the most channels, if more than one is offered. You may lose the HD services, though. You might then be able to get them back by manually adding them.

If this does fix it, you should report the problem to the box's manufacturer.

Otherwise, I suggest entering your postcode under My Settings in the top-right corner, and leaving a message on the page for the suggested transmitter. It's probably Emley Moor, which was off-air from midnight to 6am yesterday.

How long have these works been planned and are people only informed via this website?

I didn't even know this website existed until my T.V lost signal completely. Plugged into a socket and a seperate booster aeriel and I still have no signal.

What time are we supposed to get signal back and what times are the switch offs?

Yep... completely out here in Reigate. (10.57 am)

Is there any proper timetable at all for this - and information as to when it's coming back on? First I knew of it was when I turned on the TV...to a blank screen.
