bbc1 bbc2 itv1 ch4 ch5 all lost signal last night, resumed some time in the morning in a degraded form of transmission.i.e. picture less clear in definition and clarity. HD signals and other receptions stayed good.
Have the transmitting company reduced power to save money or has my aerial suddenly become inadequate

Why can I not get ITV4 on my Digital HD TV, I could use to get this channel before last update of channels. I also have a few other channels missing on listing that have vanished during last update. Last update approx 6 to 8 wks ago.
Thank you

Degsy: see my post on 31st October 9:26pm.

I have a Bravia KDL32EX401, when I bought it last year, the technical details said that it had a HD tuner, so I thought I'd get the free HD channels.

I live in France and have a satellite dish and skybox that picks up all sorts of channels free. However, when it rains I lose the signal. What can I do to prevent this - if anything? Please answer simply if possible bearing in mind that I am a complete novice and utterly inept also. Sorry if I am a bother

Barry Hodges: Can you view anything else on that same Mux? e.g:- Ideal world / Film 4 / Yesterday etc as if you can then carry out a factory reset or default setting (whatever its called on your device) re-tuning afterwards.

Out of interest, are you receiving from Waltham or Sandy? because it could be either in many areas of Peterborough.

SteveG: Haven't looked at the manual as yet, but checking the spec on Sony's website states that model of TV is fitted with a DVB-T tuner, and which will not receive HD transmissions, as it requires DVB-T2 for that.

In other words the tuner will ignore HD content when scanning.

Suzannah Jarrell: It simply means that your signal is on the verges of being too weak, and rain clouds can make the signals even weaker by partially blocking reception, like throwing a wet cloth over the dish.

What's usually done in cases like that is to use a larger dish as that catches more of the signal, although it wouldn't go amiss to have your dishes alignment checked just in case its slightly out, as that will exaggerate the problem.

This all said taking it that where the cable enters the dishes LNB is sound and is not allowing water to seep into the plug etc.

Adrian Jones: There were overnight test at Crystal Palace and there will be the same again tonight. When the services resumed they were back exactly as they were before.

In any case reducing power would not make the " picture less clear in definition and clarity". Please see How digital television works | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .

Only BBC Channels working! It's taken me half an hour so far, and I am none the wiser!
